On Christmas Day 2006, Venisha’s father, music legend James Brown, died of congestive heart failure. At the time some associates were quoted as saying that Brown, the ultimate showman, would have loved the drama of passing away on Christmas Day. In truth, it was probably the worst time he could have gone.

Hundreds on hand for annual James Brown Turkey Giveaway

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Hundreds were on hand Monday for the annual James Brown Turkey Giveaway.
It is the generosity of the James Brown family and other community and civic leaders that ensures Stephanie Winters and others like her have a Thanksgiving turkey this year.
"It means a lot to me because I only get $300 in food stamps. Me and my husband, we had to have something, so this right here is a blessing from God and these people," Winters said.
James Brown Turkey Giveway distributes hundreds of turkeys to Augusta families

Carrying a 10-pound turkey in a red tote bag, Carrie Hacker’s face lit up so brightly that any worries about purchasing groceries for a Thanksgiving meal melted away.
Hacker received one of about 400 turkeys from the annual James Brown Turkey Giveaway at
Dyess Park, an Augusta holiday tradition.
The giveaway was started by the soul singer more than 20 years ago, and the Brown Family Children Foundation has continued it since 2007.
“When you’re not able to buy one, that’s a blessing,” Hacker said. “God has been good to me.”Read Article From The Augusta Chronicle
