JAMES BROWN gets his Way in Harlem, New York

As tradition would have it, Deanna Brown Thomas, daughter of James Brown, will carry on the legacy of her famous father's charitable giving by providing Turkeys at The New York Food Bank Community Kitchen to senior citizens in Harlem on Saturday November 22, 2014 at 9:30AM.

This is made possible through the James Brown Family Performing Arts Center of New York in collaboration with Lee Cheney, Source Manager of Food Bank New York and Daryl Foriest, Director of the Community Kitchen. 2014 is a special year because of the James Brown Biopic “Get On Up” which was released in August and continuing to open around the world! Included in our celebration of this "all things James Brown" year, was to bring The JAMP Masters, comprised of young music students from The James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils to New York from Augusta, GA to perform on one special night along with other talented performers from the Tri-State area!

Kenny-Dark5.jpgHosted by Cheryl "Pepsii" Riley and Mr. Ron Grant, best known for helping up and coming artists via New York's Village Underground, The JAMP Masters held their CD Release Party and Talent Showcase called “Soul Power in New York City” at Carroll Studios located at 625 W55th Street, NY, NY 10019. The CD (JAMPism-The New Breed) which features a collection of James Brown songs was performed live by the students before a New York audience. A host of artists were invited to perform in a friendly competition but ultimately, "Kenny Dark" was the winner of a prize package of studio time and professional photo shoot.

Granting Wishes

I had the best time watching Ms.Franklin perform live in concert at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday evening. To watch her sing in person was amazing! She is so talented! However, my dream came true when Ms.Deanna took me back stage to her dressing room after the concert. The Queen of Soul was super nice and I was ready to ROCK STEADY and give her nothing but RESPECT! I hope to meet her again.

Tom Joyner & JAMP

Tom Joyner, Jay Anthony Brown and Sybil Wilkes of the Tom Joyner Morning Show visit with Deanna Brown Thomas, Mr Danny Ray and The JB Academy of Musik Pupils at the Augusta Museum of History! TJMS began their day with an in-studio interview with Deanna Brown Thomas and Kimberly Baxter Lee, School Administrator for CH Terrell Academy, which houses JAMP. Mr. Joyner and his team were on a tight schedule but that didn't stop the "hardest working man in radio" from visiting the next generation of "hardest working kids in show business". The TJMS did their broadcast live from Augusta, Ga and will also broadcast in Macon & Atlanta Georgia this week!

DEB-ADRIAN-YAMMA-MONICAThe James Brown Family Performing Art Center’s Fashion Inspires! team with Designer Adrian Alicea to offer new models an opportunity to walk in the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week showcasing his Spring Summer Collection. We got a chance to catch up with Adrian Alicea after the fashion show. Interview courtesy of Nisey Allen, Program Director WKBY in VA.

NA: When did this passion for fashion start?
AA: Watching my mom. It came from her. My mom and dad had a total of 10 kids—me being number 9.
She would sew skirts for my sisters by hand. I must have gotten it from her because I did not go to school for fashion.

NA: Where does your inspiration come from?
AA: I love outdoors—nature—I am inspired by all that I see.

NA: Where do your designs come from—your shows are not the norm, they are more theatrical?
AA: I dream or think them up. I’ve walked in many shows as a model and have traveled around the world. I can always draw from places, people and things that I have encountered.

Mayor with J.A.M.P.

I had the best time visiting with your students a few weeks back. The young people in your class are amazingly talented and I know that their musical training will undoubtedly help them with all of their other educational endeavors. It was so wonderful to see such a diverse group of the children of our community come together in harmony and with one voice. Thanks so much for inviting me and I look forward to having the opportunity to come for another visit in the future!

Helping Hands

Giving is our mission. Helping is our service. Growing up "Brown" we learned the importance of never forgetting those who are less fortunate. There is always room to help somone thru service. After a tornado storm hit Beech Island, SC, where Mr. Brown resided for more than 30 years, in April of 2009 people in the area were devastated. The storm demolished homes and businesses. Even the local fire department was destroyed. The Brown Family Foundation donated bedding, bath and kitchen items to help the families effected start rebuilding their lives back.
